In September 2015, The Harris Center for Conservation Education successfully purchased the conservation easement from the Seaver Silver Lake Farm Trust on 187 acres of lake waterfront in Harrisville on the east side of the lake. This easement is directly adjacent to a previous conservation easement in Nelson along the eastern shore. The purchase was assisted by a direct donation from the Land Trust of $188,000, plus $48,000 held at the Harris Center under our direction, and donations that our members made directly to the Harris Center for the purchase of the easement. With this conservation easement, approximately 75% of the land in the Silver Lake watershed is in some sort of permanent conservation protection.
